How To... Make Your Own Vintage Map Bunting...

Vintage Map Bunting - handmade by daffodils & snowdrops

You Will Need...
An old map or atlas
Scissors
Bunting triangle template
Bias binding
Thread
Sewing machine (could be done by hand if you are patient :)

Bunting made from re-cycling old maps and atlases, make cute and quirky decorations for your home...
So why not have a go at making some of your own...

To begin... take your bunting template (this can be easily made by cutting a triangle from some card) and place it on your map tracing the outline...

Once you have your desired number of bunting flags, cut out each one...

Then... iron your bias binding tape in half and position your bunting flags, evenly spaced, between the tape...
(bunting flags can be doubled up and sewn together to give a thicker flag if you wish)

To finish... sew down the length of your bias binding tape trapping in each flag as you go along...

...and there you have your own, ready to hang, vintage map bunting...

Happy Anniversary...

Map heart picture -
handmade by daffodils & snowdrops

This weekend my husband and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary...

As traditional 5th wedding anniversary gifts have a theme of wood, I decided to make and frame a picture for my husband...

... I cut hearts from a map of Turkey where we first met and England where we live together now... two places very close to our hearts...

I then set them in a simple white wooden frame...

My lovely husband surprised me with this gorgeous silver origami elephant necklace!..

My favourite animal is the elephant...
I absolutely love my necklace :)

Happy Anniversary Darling! xx

Mollie Makes... Crochet Flower...

This weekend I finally got round to making my cute crochet flower brooch...

... the fantastic little project by Anna Rakoniewska, featured in this months Mollie Makes magazine...

After a lovely girly weekend with my mam for Mothers Day, we decided to spend some time on the cute crochet activity...

After a couple of attempts we managed to get our flowers looking how we wanted :)

...and I'm really happy with the final result...

My mam pinned hers to one of her favourite tops... and I think I might attach mine to a cushion as a decorative detail...

Has anyone else made their MM crochet flower?

I would love to hear how you got on... so please leave a comment below...

Mother's Day Treats...

Walnut Crumble Biscuits
- homemade by daffodils & snowdrops

Why not treat your mum this Mothers Day to some yummy home baking!..

I love these 'Walnut Crumble' biscuits from the 'Great British Bake Off' cookery book...

I decided to adapt the recipe slightly by adding some finely chopped dates...

100g Unsalted butter
100g Caster sugar
40g Demerara sugar
1 Egg
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
250g Self raising flour
50g Chopped nuts
35g Dates

Mix the butter and sugar in a large mixing bowl... then beat the egg with vanilla and mix into the butter mixture...

Sift the flour into the bowl and mix... then add the chopped nuts and dates...

Once mixed well, divide the mixture into approximately 24 balls and place on a lightly greased baking tray (with ample spacing)...

Flatten the balls slightly with the back of a fork... and sprinkle a few left over chopped nuts/dates on the top and press in...

Bake at 160°c (fan oven) for about 10minutes until golden brown...

Then leave the biscuits to cool and firm up on a wire rack... and enjoy!..

Happy Mothers Day!..

Love To Visit... May

May Antiques - Les Puces, Paris

On a recent trip to Paris I made sure I visited the fantastic Les Puces...
The most famous flee market in Paris and the largest antiques market in the world...

One of my favourite little stalls was 'May'... a cute home accessories dealer tucked away on Rue des Rosiers...

May has an interesting selection of both antique and vintage items for your home...

I fell in love with the vintage glass tower...

Little Kenny...

I recently spent some time making a friend of mine a decorative crochet blanket for her little ones christening...

anyway... to cut a long story short... it went wrong and I ended up buying a gift instead...

Although I was a bit upset,
all was not lost...
it seems little Kenny had his eye on the blanket and it soon became his...

...it's a bit girly but he doesn't seem to mind!..

The blanket is now sporting a floral fabric patch, as Kenny decided to have a little nibble of the edge :)
